Pre-planning

Day 15

Success Marathon Series

Scripture Reading:

Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.

Proverbs 16:3, ESV

We hope that the Lord has blessed you with the few principles that we shared on the inexhaustible subject of excellence in this success marathon series. Moving on from this point, we want to highlight to our readers that for any project to succeed it should follow certain processes which include planning, gathering required resources, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. These processes are not unique to the world of the believer but are also followed by unbelievers. It is sad to mention that at times unbelievers follow and watch over these processes more than the believer.  It is on this basis that Jesus said that the children of this age (unbelievers) are more intelligent than the children of the light – believers (See Luke 16:8).

It is important for us to highlight that although these principles of the execution of effective works are the same in the world as in the kingdom of God, there are a few differences to note. For example, in the life of child of God, there is what we call a pre-planning phase also known as the divine endorsement phase. The wise king speaks about this phase when he advises us in Proverbs 3:5-7, “Trust the Lord with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding, SEEK His WILL in ALL you do, and He will show you which path to take…” (NLT). He goes on in the next verse to say, “Be not wise in your own eyes…” (ESV). We see clearly that we need to acknowledge God or seek His Will before we begin planning, this extra task will distinguish our works from the world in terms of the splendor that God will give it. It is at this point that people wonder why their well planned ideas have failed; it is simply because they ignore this important pre-planning phase. Furthermore, King Solomon goes on to emphasize, “Commit your work to the Lord, and ALL your PLANS will be ESTABLISHED,” Proverbs 16:3 (ESV). Yet again it is clear that good plans are not the true starting point for effective work; we need to connect with the ONE who establishes good plans in the pre-planning phase.

Interestingly enough, King Solomon in order to emphasize this aspect of pre-planning, he goes on to warn people about the possibility of failure to all those that do not follow this advice as it written in Proverbs 15:22,(ESV) “Plans go wrong for lack advice; many advisers bring success.” The first advice that we need to yield to is the institution of a pre-planning phase to every effective work. The two enemies of the pre-planning phase are ignorance and pride. To those who did not know, we say to you from this moment apply this principle and experience the power of divine success. To the proud, who lean on their own understanding, we recommend that you yield the apostle James that your works may go smoothly, “God resists the proud but He gives grace to the humble.”

Prayer and Meditation:

Lord,

May I exercise the discipline of involving you in all my planning.

I pray that all my plans be established as I trust in you.

Amen
